Capital High School has lots of young entrepreneurs, one of whom is Lauren Helbling. Helbling has created her own scrunchie business called Happy Scrunchie. A scrunchie is a rubber band covered in fabric that is used to hold hair. She creates these small masterpieces by buying fabric from the fabric store, cutting out a rectangle, making a loop, and then sewing.
Her love for making the scrunchies stems from her passion for sewing. Ever since she was a little girl, Helbling says, she has always loved sewing. She believes has been successful with this business taking into account the fact that she once sold 16 scrunchies in one night. Helbling plans to continue this business for as long as it’s popular, even joking that she may set up a small sewing area in her dorm room.
Happy Scrunchie can be found on Instagram @happy.scrunchie where it is easy to order. Just direct message the account with which scrunchies you want and Lauren will take it from there!
Be sure to go show our student entrepreneur some love and buy a scrunchie!
